Centre for Rural Tourism Development (CRTD) is the first organization in Odisha, and among the first in India, to adopt a wetland for conservation and community awareness. CRTD has adopted Arachandi Wetland in Cuttack district, Odisha, with the aim of protecting its biodiversity and promoting sustainable tourism. As part of its conservation activities, CRTD conducts bird census and monitoring programs three times a year to study migratory and resident bird populations and to create awareness among local communities about the importance of wetland conservation.
Conservation Activities:
- Tri-Annual Bird Census: Conducted three times a year to monitor migratory and resident populations.
- Community Awareness: Educating local residents on the critical importance of wetland health.

We are doing very serious work in discovering and exploring caves. Our team has been exploring the northern part of Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary, where we have found some important prehistoric signs, including rock paintings.

We organize various awareness programs across Odisha and continuously work to improve livelihoods through tourism. Our team is deeply committed to promoting sustainable tourism practices. we provide training to local communities, especially housewives, on how to host and interact with tourists, develop and manage homestays, prepare local cuisine for visitors, and promote tourist destinations through social media.

Wildlife conservation
We conduct awareness programs on how to protect wildlife in their natural habitats. Our team actively works on managing human–wildlife conflict and promoting coexistence. we also take initiatives to provide drinking water for birds and animals during the summer season. In addition, we organize awareness campaigns on forest protection, including the prevention and control of forest fires.

We have created a dedicated rescue team in Odisha called the Odisha Snake Helpline. This team primarily works to rescue snakes from human-inhabited areas and safely release them back into their natural habitats. This approach is one of the most effective ways to manage human–snake conflict.
Our rescue operations are carried out in coordination with the Forest Department. In addition to rescue work, we conduct awareness programs on snakebite prevention and safety. We also provide professional training programs on safe and ethical snake rescue techniques.

We conduct training programs for tourist guides, focusing on improving guiding skills, guest handling, and communication. Our training also covers Indian culture, wildlife, tribal and rural life, nature, and temples.
